Diablo Estates is one of the most exclusive communities in Contra Costa County. Diablo is only 1.4 sq miles and has about 700 residents. in 2024, Forbes Magazine listed Diablo as the 27th most expensive zip code in the country with a median sale price of $3.1MM.
Diablo is a set community. It is not going to get any bigger, which is why it is so exclusive. There is an old world feel with large, custom mansions, a country club/golf course and streets lined with mature oak trees. The community sits at the base of Mount Diablo and is considered a suburb of San Fransisco and Oakland. Its the perfect getaway for people who are seeking a more rural option.
It is said that during the gold rush, San Fransisco gold settlers went to Diablo for the winter to escape the fog. Right at the top of Mount Diablo, there is a light house. When WWII was over, the lighthouse helped bring home plans from Hawaii. The lighthouse was recently rehabilitated and burns once a year for memorial day.
Homes in Diablo are very east coast inspired — think colonial Virginia. Old school character, carriage houses, rustic traditional, nostalgia. Homes are set away from the roads with long, winding drive ways and plenty of historical oak trees for privacy. Copper gutters and roofs add to the old world feel. Custom stone work blends with the natural elements of the area.
